Welcome to the School of Foreign Languages, Sun Yat-sen University!
The School of Foreign Languages is as old as Sun Yat-sen University itself – with foreign language courses being offered here since the founding of this university in 1924. With a history of about 90 years, the School is now a thriving community of students and scholars working in the broad areas of foreign languages and linguistics, translation, literature and culture. The School consists of four departments: English, French, German and Japanese, and 9 research centres. It is highly recognised in the fields of functional linguistics, English poetry studies, translation studies, and creative writing.
We aim to set the agenda both in terms of our research and the learning environment we offer. Our objective is to give students the highest quality educational experience, where they are taught and guided by inspiring scholars. Our students also benefit from many exchange and study abroad opportunities. We look to the future with the goal of globalizing our students through proficiency in foreign languages and knowledge of foreign cultures. Here, students learn to think critically, act globally, and work collaboratively to achieve their full potential.
If the chance to study different aspects of foreign literatures, cultures and linguistics interests you, then welcome to the School of Foreign Languages. You will become part of an intellectually vibrant academic community.
