In the preliminary review phase, Professor Wang Dongfeng from School of Foreign Languages and other experienced teachers were invited as the judges. Eventually, 18 papers stood out and came to the final competition, which were included in the collection of excellent papers from this forum.
This forum gathered 18 outstanding postgraduate students from Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Jinan University and South China Normal University to the final competition. Each contestant had 6 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for oral defense. Some were good at rigorous thinking and clear expression; some spoke authentic and fluent English; and others brought new and interesting topics. Their wonderful performance impressed the audience, who responded with warm applause now and then. Through discussion the judges reached a unanimous decision to award first prize to Tan Xin from School of Foreign Languages, Sun Yat-sen University.
With the principle of “sharing wisdom, cooperating for progress and stimulating innovation” and the aim of promoting postgraduate students’ awareness of innovation and academic spirit, this forum is designed to provide a bigger platform for Foreign Languages and Literature postgraduates at universities in Guangdong province to present their research findings and share innovative thinking. This forum is also dedicated to broadening the students’ academic horizons and creating an academic atmosphere of cooperation and innovation.
