Welcome to the Book Club!
The Book Club is part of the Reading and Writing Forum run by The Sun Yat-sen University Center for English-language Creative Writing. It aims to provide motivated students with the opportunity to read literary and, sometimes, critical works(most are in English, a few in Chinese) outside the classroom and participate in in-depth discussion led by teachers from the School of Foreign Languages, Faculty of English Education, School of International Studies, and Department of Chinese. The Book Club hopes to serve as the vehicle for promoting the literary and critical reading and writing of world literature.
The Book Club operates once a month. Each reading session enrolls 15 students, who will sign up for a given session at Room 211 at the School of Foreign Languages, where they will take a copy of the reading material. Students are expected to read the recommended book(s) closely before the group meets. The focuses of discussion are aspects of writing techniques, the theme, the time and people reflected in the given reading.
Sign-up for each reading session is first-come-first-served basis. Each student can sign up for no more than three times in one academic year.
The reading sessions are held in Room 301, the School of Foreign Languages. The following are the details of all sessions in the coming academic year, while each session will be announced on month before the group discussion:
